Greetings, U.S. Trauma Healing Institute Facilitators! This is our first newsletter specifically for you. After reading your feedback from the facilitator survey last fall, we're testing out some new ways to serve you better, including this newsletter and monthly Lunch & Learns (more about that below). We have exciting things in progress as we focus on resourcing U.S. churches to bring healing to their communities.

In addition to receiving our quarterly Global Community of Practice newsletter, you will now receive relevant news, stories and updates from around the U.S.

Resource Spotlight: Beyond Disaster

Our mission is to equip the Church to address the effects of trauma, grief and loss with resources that integrate biblical and mental health principles so they can help people heal in their own communities. These resources include the Restoring Hope Bible, Beyond Disaster booklets, and postcards with helpful tips about coping in a crisis.

As we witnessed the devastating effects of California wildfires in January, we partnered with 23 organizations, churches, and individuals to distribute over 3,700 resources to those impacted by the fires. Here’s one story of Beyond Disaster being used to help bring healing there.

Testimony from California

Thank you to Karen Gonzalez for sending us this report. She lives near the Hurst fire and works with Helping Hands Resource Center in CA.

"I want to express my deep gratitude for these resources. They have been incredibly helpful and powerful for those I’ve shared them with. They have provided clarity in understanding what has happened and have been instrumental in the healing process. They have integrated the small booklet into my daily work, carrying it as a reminder and tool for support.

One story that stands out is of a survivor who lost her husband. They were overwhelmed with grief and struggling to process everything. When I shared the Beyond Disaster booklet with them, they found comfort in realizing they weren’t alone in their emotions. The reflections and guidance helped them begin to make sense of their trauma, and they’ve since started using the exercises to regain a sense of stability. They now keep the booklet with them as a reminder that healing is possible, even in the midst of devastation.

Thank you for making these resources available—your work is truly making a difference.”  -Karen

You can access digital versions of all our disaster response materials on the website, including Helping People after a Disaster, which equips you to use Beyond Disaster with people in crisis.

We will be sharing our Bible-based resources for parents, children, and youth. These resources provide practical support and biblical wisdom for those who have gone through disruptive events, like natural disaster, displacement, and violence. They are informed by best practices in mental health and two decades of experience using trauma healing materials worldwide with Christian churches from every tradition.
